Basic Function

To design, develop, and implement campaigns and strategies to market or represent Metro's transportation programs and transit systems.

Example Of Duties

  • Meets with internal clients to assess marketing needs; develop marketing plans and coordinates strategies to market or represent Metro’s transportation and transit systems
  • Works with the design, social media and web teams to develop content, outreach materials, marketing campaigns and presentations
  • Writes, edits and proofs copy, which may include bilingual copy
  • Prepares reports and correspondence
  • Prepares and distributes information regarding Metro’s services, including literature, current transit activities, advertising and display materials, which may be bilingual
  • Responds to requests for information
  • Prepares Request for Proposals for marketing/promotional services, as well as creative and media project briefs, as required
  • Monitors vendors’ work to ensure contract compliance; resolves any issues that are not in compliance with agreed marketing program goals, as required
  • Verifies vendors’ invoices and works with Accounting to ensure timely and correct vendor payments and to follow-up pending financial issues and actions, as required
  • Acts as a bilingual representative of Metro at various functions and events
  • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Requirements For Employment

  • Bachelor's degree - Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or other related field
  • 2 years professional-level experience performing marketing, public relations, promotions, or other related work
  • Valid California Class C driver license
Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications (PQs) are used to identify relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) as determined by business necessity. These criteria are considered preferred qualifications and are not intended to serve as minimum requirements for the position. PQs will help support selection decisions throughout the recruitment. In addition, applicants who possess these PQs will not automatically be selected.

The following are the preferred qualifications :
  • Experience in a market research position

  • Experience designing and managing quantitative survey methodologies (copy-test, concept test, segmentation, and brand tracking)

  • Experience managing the day-to-day logistics of a marketing research study, including providing direction and feedback to outside vendors

  • Experience analyzing data using Excel, SPSS, or another cross-tabulation tool

  • Experience utilizing PowerPoint to present data

Knowledge:

  • Theories, principles, and practices of marketing, promotions, public information and media communications
  • Applicable laws, rules, and regulations governing public sector marketing
  • Project management, research, and analytical techniques, methods, and procedures

Abilities:

  • Perform marketing work or program development in support of major transit services and programs
  • represents Metro before the public
  • Represent Metro before the public
  • Work with public and employee work groups
  • Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, contracts, budgets, and labor/management agreements
  • Coordinate multiple projects and meet critical deadlines
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and correspondence
  • Exercise judgment and creativity within established policy guidelines
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees, the Board of Directors, public and private agencies, and the community
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English
