Basic Function

To perform information systems support and analysis for a specified function or area within a department.

Example Of Duties

  • Consults with users to determine information processing needs
  • Performs systems analysis and provides systems support in a specified application area
  • Designs technical systems specifications describing information processing functions required by the users
  • Evaluates and recommends use of commercial software in application area
  • Provides input to consultants regarding user needs and acceptability of alternatives for development of assigned systems
  • Evaluates systems to ensure that user requirements are properly satisfied
  • Monitors system performance and integrity
  • Responds to system emergencies
  • Troubleshoots, analyzes and resolves user and systems problems
  • Coordinates with systems programmers
  • Prepares reports, systems training manuals, and technical systems documentation
  • Participates in the department's information security, disaster recovery, and safety programs
  • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Requirements For Employment

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field
  • 2 years' experience performing work within a department leading to an understanding of systems for computerization
Preferred Qualifications

Due to the competitiveness of the recruitment, consideration may be given to those candidates who demonstrate the following additional qualifications:

  • Experience working with warehouse and inventory management systems

Special Conditions

  • May periodically be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week
  • Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
  • Occasional exposure to weather, physical, mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards

  • Theories, principles, and practices of specified application areas and systems analysis
  • Capabilities of large-scale computer systems
  • Personal computer hardware and software

  • Analyze and design information systems in a specified application area
  • Troubleshoot system problems
  • Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing

  • Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, budgets, and labor/management agreements
