Basic Function

To conduct transit security, administrative, and industrial investigations in support of Metro security program.

Example Of Duties

  • Plans, organizes, and conducts complex investigations from preliminary security reports of alleged instances of transit security-related violations
  • Performs a full range of administrative and industrial security investigations
  • Prepares and presents findings of security-related investigations to appropriate authority
  • Conducts or coordinates background investigations of newly hired security personnel
  • Conducts contract compliance audits of Metro security contracts
  • Conducts security evaluations of Metro properties and prepared Post Orders
  • Reviews revenue collection and protection policies and procedures; makes appropriate recommendations
  • Investigates possible revenue loss from Central Cash Counting Office or other vaulting procedures and locations
  • Receives, interviews, and responds to customer and employee complaints regarding security issues
  • Prepares written security evaluations for Metro properties and recommends actions
  • Works with appropriate Metro departments and law enforcement agencies on cases involving employee fraud, theft, or other criminal activity
  • Plans and conducts surveillance operations as necessary
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned
  • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out
  • Assists in developing policies and procedures to reduce the incidence of violations and abuse
  • Designs, organizes, and provides guidance to staff regarding complex investigations, and case development
  • Ascertains if violations of federal, state, or local laws and regulations, have occurred
  • Keeps direct supervisor informed on investigative progress and sensitive issues regarding cases

Requirements For Employment

  • BachelorÂ’s degree - Criminal Justice, Business, Public Administration, or other related field
  • 2 yearsÂ’ experience conducting internal affairs investigations in a law enforcement or security environment
  • Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in the public sector
  • Training or certification in internal affairs
  • Training or certification in use of force

Knowledge:

  • Theories, principles, and practices of specialized investigative techniques and interrogation methods
  • Applicable local, state, and federal law, rules, and regulations
  • State Department of Consumer Affairs security guard requirements
  • Principles and practices of security administration
  • Principles and practices of industrial security

Abilities:

  • Conduct security-related investigations
  • Conduct security surveillance operations
  • Analyze situations, identify problems, and recommend solutions
  • Compile and analyze complex data
  • Interview and gather facts from various sources
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Prepare reports and correspondence
  • Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
  • Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Exercise good judgment
  • Follow rules and instructions
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
